Concept description:
For me, the solar eclipse is not merely an astronomical event, but an ancient metaphor for ontological obscuration: the temporary complete disappearance of the light of existence, during which something deeper and more fundamental becomes visible.

The project originated from my personal experience in 1999. In the first image from 2015, I placed my own silhouette under the dark sun, positioning the finite self before the infinite. The work exists in dual form: as a physical piece and within the 010 VR film, where the image stands before a mirror. Its reflection in virtual space questions the multiply mediated nature of existence — the infinite regress between reality, image, and consciousness.

Ten years later, in 2025, I took the step of radical reduction. I removed my own silhouette. With this gesture, I enacted the withdrawal of the subject, yielding the place of the self to the Absolute. The second image no longer speaks of man standing before the cosmos, but of the cosmos existing without man.

The Solar Eclipse series thus follows the dialectic of presence and absence. It examines the question of Being in the strictest language of minimalism: how can absence become stronger than presence? How can consciousness be purified of its own image? And what remains when the witness disappears from the testimony?

Through this process, the work does not merely record the moment of the solar eclipse, but the transitional state of existence itself — that border zone where the boundaries between light and darkness, self and no-self, visible and invisible dissolve.

In ultra-minimalist form and with metaphysical depth, I seek the answer to what remains the most ancient question: Without seer or seen — what shines?
