Myllerr - Presence 2025
[Conceptual art/installation]
Collection: Manifestatio
There is nothing to look at in this space.
Looking turns back onto itself.
Presence becomes the artwork.
Do not leave it behind.
Concept description:
The installation entitled Presence consists of an empty, white exhibition space and text placed on the wall of the space. There are no exhibited objects, objects or technical devices in the space. The work is based solely on the presence of the visitor.
The visitor of the exhibition becomes exhibited by entering the space and being present in it. The object of the work is the visitor himself: his own body, consciousness and presence, and – in the case of the simultaneous presence of several visitors – his mutual relationship with others. The participants become both observers and observed; the act of looking is directed back at himself.
The fundamental experience of the work is the process of search and recognition. Upon entering, the visitor searches for an artwork according to the usual exhibition logic, but is confronted with its absence. After reading the text placed on the wall, it becomes clear that the object of the exhibition is not an external object, but the person present himself. Recognition does not appear as a preliminary instruction, but as an experience that gradually develops over the time spent in the space.
Presence is connected to the tradition of contemporary conceptual and immaterial art, but is realized in a radically reduced form. The work does not use any media, technology or performative elements; it relies solely on the minimal conditions of space, language and human presence.
The aim of the exhibition is not to create a spectacle, but to create a situation in which the visitor experiences his or her own presence as an object of art.
